Describe your coming out experience.
It was freshman year of college after attending a religious high school. I was in torment and sat down on some steps after class. Next to me on the wall, someone had written in chalk: “Give yourself the best Christmas present you can—Come Out.” I instantly knew it was true and came out shortly after that.

If you could go back and visit another year, which year would it be?
About 450 b.c. in the Golden Age of Athens. With all those naked athletes, flowing red wine, and rampant homosexuality, it sounds like heaven.
What’s your favorite form of entertainment?
I’m more of a doer than a watcher. I like to entertain myself (and others) skiing, rafting, kayaking, hiking, etc. I also enjoy live music and, of course, musical theater.

Millions of acres of wilderness in every direction.

Under construction. My partner and I are building our own

Religious fascism.

Moose. I nearly got trampled by a 1,000-pound moose last week.
The one thing you want to do before you die.
There are so many mountains I want to climb, oceans to kayak, rivers to raft, countries to visit, marriage rights to win, etc., but I have done quite a bit already. I could die content today.

I love to share the profound adventures that Alaska has to offer (even with straight people).

A mountaintop in Alaska.
